Meet corporate event planners Firebird Events
What’s your role at Firebird?
Sales and Event Manager – I look after events from initial enquiry to onsite event management.
What’s it like working at Firebird?
Fun and Fast paced! We have a very happy and chatty office and are always bouncing ideas off each other, there is very rarely a quiet moment!
Why does Firebird like running events at The Elvetham? What makes it a good events venue?
Where to start?! We love working with the sales team, they’re a team of true professionals with a real passion for the venue they work at! And the grounds… the outdoor space is perfect for all of our outdoor activities, the possibilities are endless!
We have 35 acres of grounds at The Elvetham, what’s your favourite or most popular outdoor activity?
Country Pursuits multi-activity day has to be my favourite because it’s more than just one activity! But, if I had to narrow it down… Duck Herding! We work with a fantastic sheepdog and duck handler who brings along some very affectionate dogs and noisy ducks and geese! Seeing them waddle up the steps and slide into the paddling pool never gets tiring.
We have held our very own team building events at The Elvetham a number of times. This year we did; Rage Buggies, Archery and Duck Herding, followed by a BBQ and Cocktail Making in the Morning Room.
Any trends in popular activities in 2016/17?
As you can imagine Bake Off has been hugely popular this year. Just like the real thing guests are given 3 tasks… the Signature Bake, the Technical Challenge and the Showstopper! The winners are chosen following a taste test by our very own Paul Hollywood!
What’s the benefit of a business bringing their team to an activity?
Team building activities are a great way to bring teams together, especially newly formed teams or individuals from a global team coming together for the first time. Team bonding greatly improves communication within a business, as it breaks down barriers that may have been there before. Activities can be run in order to develop a team, bring them together or even just to have a little bit of fun!
Any memories that stand out of events that you’ve run at The Elvetham?
One event that took place in summer 2015 was a personal favourite… A global toy manufacturer who was hosting a three-day conference at the venue had set aside time on each day to take the team outside for some fun! We provided Wipe Out (much like the TV show) on the first day, Dog Handling, Ferret Racing and our Pulsar Laser Dome on the second day and Laser Clay Shooting and Human Table Football on the last! The weather was beautiful across the three days and we received super feedback from the client, along with a little thank you gift in the shape of one of their toys – which is still sat on my desk!
Any common misconceptions about team building that you’d like to clear up?
Murder Mystery – Many people think that much like the home game for dinner parties, their guests need to dress up and be a character. In our Murder Mystery evenings, we provide Actors who dress up as the characters and act out scenes between dinner courses. There is a huge amount of one to one contact between the guests and actors, this gives the guests the chance to work out who committed the murder!
Do you have any top tips for people planning events for their team?
Always keep the whole team in mind – there is little point in booking an activity which you love but won’t be of interest to the rest of your colleagues. Very often physical activities aren’t suitable for the whole team and some guests may feel excluded – which is the last thing anybody wants when you are trying to bring the team together! We are always happy to make recommendations based on your team’s requirements, so would encourage anyone to give us a call as soon as they start the planning process.
