Planning your summer event
Warmer weather and longer days are the perfect excuse to get the team out of the office, so here’s our top event planning tips to help you plan your best summer party or away-day yet!
1. Location, location, location
help you plan your best summer party of away-day yet!o help you keep your cool and organise the best one yet!
Location is key for any summer event, and it is important to choose somewhere that has plenty of outside space to enjoy the glorious British summer (ahem!). It is also important to choose a venue that has a contingency should the weather be less than favourable. Here at The Elvetham, we have 35 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, so there are plenty of options when it comes to outdoor locations, whether you prefer the formal gardens and terrace or privacy of the kitchen garden, tucked away behind the main house…
If the weather is typically British, you can retreat to one of our indoor spaces and enjoy the glorious views of the gardens and countryside from the grandeur of our Victorian country house.
2. Food, glorious food
Remember, the main reason you are hosting your summer event is to motivate your team and give them a chance to sit back, relax and have some fun. To help, make sure you get someone to handle the food, after all, you do not want half the office coming down ill the day after the summer get-together. At The Elvetham, we offer a choice of summer food perfect for this time of the year. From a barbecue in the gardens to a full hog roast with a selection of delicious summer salads, all lovingly prepared by our talented team of chefs. Take a look at our menus here.
No event is complete without some form of entertainment and it is a great way to make your summer event even more memorable, and makes sure the focus for the event is on having fun! We caught up with Firebird Events to find out what’s new in the world of team building and how you can make your event one to remember…
The phrase ‘Team Building’ can often send shivers down the spines of employees, however it can be so much more than an awkward afternoon of ice breakers in the office! One of our most popular summer team building activity is the Crystal Maze. Based on the hit TV show this fun packed and energetic activity is designed for teams to compete in a range of games and challenges in order to win the most crystals, for the end task in the dome! The challenges are varied to suit all skill levels and are designed to encourage communication, logic, problem solving and time management. Other popular summer activities include; Sun and Games – outdoor fun including ‘bouncy beach football’ and ‘sandcastle conundrum’, GPS Challenge – interactive treasure hunt around the grounds and Happy Sundaes – ice cream making!
Top tip: It’s great to keep an element of surprise for your guests and where possible it creates a real buzz if you can keep your team building activities a secret until the day. Having said that, we always advise our clients to give their delegates a ‘heads up’ on what to wear when taking part in a team building activity and in summer months sun cream and a hat are essentials too!
4. It’s all in the planning
We are all guilty of leaving things to the last-minute sometimes, but this can often mean many people aren’t able to attend. We recommend sending out invites as soon as you have confirmed your date so that everyone can plan their diaries as summer is always a busy time of the year. At The Elvetham, our dedicated team are used to helping organise 100s of events every year.
